Itinerary
Just a little over an hour’s drive south of Seville is the charming city of Cádiz, considered the oldest “living” city in all of Western culture. Feel the atmosphere of what was once the heart of commerce with the Americas. Walk through the narrow streets of the Old Town and see the countless beautiful plazas, stately palace buildings, the taverns, the shops, the people… Don’t miss the stunning variety of fish at the Central Food Market, or simply the quiet La Caleta, no doubt the most beautiful beach in the world for any gaditano (Cádiz local).
Top off your stroll with a first stop to literally take in some local flavor. How about a taste of the different stages of Manzanilla? This wine can only be aged in bodegas located in the nearby coastal town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, where the high relative humidity carried in by the sea-breeze provides its special organoleptic characteristics and strong Atlantic character. Learn the difference between a Manzanilla Fina or Pasada, Olorosa or Amontillada, in a tasting session at a century-old taberna.
After the tasting, walk to the nearby port and get on board the catamaran ferry line, headed for El Puerto de Santa Maria, known as El Puerto to the locals. Enjoy exceptional views of Cádiz and its surrounding towns while crossing the Bay. El Puerto is home not only to beautiful beaches and some of the world’s most famous Sherry wineries, but also one of Andalusia’s finest restaurants, Aponiente, where you’ll be enjoying fish in a new and delicious way. El Chef del Mar (The Chef of the Sea), is what owner, chef Angel León, calls himself. He grew up in a fisherman’s world and made fish and cooking his passion. You’ll soon find that with a perfect combination of the best local produce and his distinct personal vision of gastronomy, this passion is genuinely reflected on every dish in your personalized menu.
Enjoy lunch to the fullest, and maybe take a well-earned siesta on the drive back to Seville, where your trip concludes.
